ep1

I have the chance to buy a single lens ep1 kit for for about 135 pounds from a club member. He has had it for only about 5 months and it has had little use. I haven't had a micro 43 camera before so should I go for it at the price?

Re: ep1

It's not dear. Might be worth it if you want to see what the fuss is about.

Re: ep1

Seems like a very good deal to me. As Stephen said it's not much money to see it you like micro 4/3 and if you don't then you might even make some money when you sell it.

Re: ep1

Dave,

Assuming it is in good condition that is indeed a very good price, as you may notice I have just sold mine for 225.00

So if its all ok I say yes go for it because whilst the PEN series has advanced over the past couple of years the EP-1 remains a capable performer and as "Phil D" says if you end up not liking it you may well make a "bob or two" if you sell it on.

Kind regards Simon

Re: ep1

You really can't go wrong at that price, it's a no-brainer!

Yes, I did see yours Simon but I am not fussed about the 17mm lens or the VF. Yes, I could easily sell it on if I didn't get on with it. Would have to get a cheap MMF 1 clone to use my 4/3 lenses with it but in total that would still be less than 200. Just waiting to see if my offer is excepted. He has been offered 120 on trade-in for a lens for his new 5D Mk2, so maybe......

Well I got this wrong! At the time I wasn't sure if it was the EP-1 or the EPL-1(why such similar names? - I do know why now). It was the latter model and he wouldn't bite at 135 and stuck with 150. I did have it off him and I am really pleased with it. I haven't had a chance to use it much but the higher ISO images seem to be better than my E-3. The kit lens is surprisingly good, but of course it is an Oly after all. I will most likely get one of those MMF-1 clones to use my 43 lens on the EPL-1 as I don't want to spend a lot.

I know that some on here have the clone (around the 50 mark I believe) but have yet to hear much about their performance. Can anyone help?

All in all, so far I am well pleased with my purchase.

Re: ep1

Well, you have several advantages over the EP-1, not least of which a sharper image and the use of the EVF if you get the funds for one. I am sure you'll have fun!

I have no FT lenses but have had good experience with cheaper eBay clones for other lens mounts. But of course all electronic coupling is forsaken, so really it's not the same thing.

I have one of these winging it's way from China at this very moment. I'll let you know how it stacks up to my MMF2 once it arrives.
