Wanted: Wide angle lens

Ok so after spending two weeks on holiday looking through my viewfinder and thinking 'I wish I had a slightly wider lens,' i've decided to extend my collection of lenses to include something wider than my 14-54 mk.II.
Just wondering what people have got to sell and i'll consider anything...

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

Of course you will be wanting the 11-22 ZD. It is a cracking lens but people tend to hang on to theirs.
Have a look on EBay too.

I am selling my ZD 7-14, as its simply not getting the use it deserves.
Totally mint, boxed, with original paperwork.

I have a 9-18 as well, and being light & compact, that's the one that gets used, as it gets mounted on both my E30 & E-P1.

One of the outstanding Oly lenses, as we all know!

Do you have a budget in mind, and how flexible is it?

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

Thanks guys, I haven't really considered how far I can stretch my budget but I'd say 400 being the upper limit so that will definately rule out a 7-14

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

Just to tempt you, FFordes have an 11-22 in for 399, well within your budget.

They also have a 9-18mm at 349

Kerso on ebay has a new 9-18mm for 379, though if you contact him directly, I'm sure you will get it cheaper.

For something a bit more oddball, you could try a Peleng 8mm Fisheye manual focus and stopdown metering only, but difficult or addictive depending on your point of view

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

I'd go for the 9-18, I know for my purposes the 11-22 wouldn't be wide enough, I'd contact Kerso direct I think he sells the 9-19 for about 349.

You can send him a PM from this site.

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

You could always go for the Sigma 10 - 20 F4 also, really nice bit of kit, I prefer it to the Zuiko 9 - 18 (which is also a fine lens)

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

This has given a me a right headache now! Is the 9-18mm still a good lens, even though it comes under the standard lens category? I'm thinking towards this lens now as i've just looked at an older thread where someone posted up over layed comparisons of the same image taken at 14mm, 11mm and 9mm and I don't think the 11-22mm would be wide enough for me.

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

By standard, it means it is standard quality, not standard as in focal length range. It offers a (35mm equivalent) range of 18mm -36mm, which is as wide as most people will ever want to go. But the 11-22 (22-44 in 35mm) is a cracker of a lens and a good one to use lots of the time. Nowhere near as wide as the 9-18 but it does not have to be for me as I also have the 7-14
But the 9-18 should serve you well, especially fitted to an E-4XX or E-6XX series body as it is lovely and compact, or so they say.

You might want to look at this comparison of various WA lenses for Olys.

The 9-18 fares quite well

Re: Wanted: Wide angle lens

Yeah the 9-18 is a great lens, I used one for a year or so and was very pleased with the image quality. It's a fairly small lightweight lens too. I ended up selling it and got a 7-14 which in my view is a superior lens but also much more expensive, larger and heavier.

I can certainly recommend the 9-18.
