Seems a wee bit nonsensical that each of the super nations each still have their own space exploration programs. 21st century and we're still at each others throats. How much simpler if each nation came together to cut costs and share the knowledge.

I wonder if the Star Trek philosophy will ever come to be?

Amazing. That they were able to do an automated orbit, and landing, is testament to how how good computer science was, in the Soviet Union. I've encountered a couple of Russian geeks, from that era, while travelling on business. They're clever, funny people, with a great sense of humour.
