Re: "Can I get?"

The one that annoys me is bar staff and shop assistants who, instead of saying "yes please" or "can I help you?", prefer "are you all right there?".

No I'm not, I'm waiting for some service .

Re: "Can I get?"

The one that winds me up is "at all".

Usage examples include paying for your petrol and the assistant ask " do you have a Tesco club card at all?"

Grrrrr - grumpy grump grump

Re: "Can I get?"

A thing is not "stunning" unless it actually causes unconsciousness.

News reports (even on Radio 4) often say "we caught up with David Cameron*" ... Caught up with? How is that, was he running at the time?

Re: "Can I get?"

Good one Pete.

How about the increasingly common "sneek peek" of an upcoming product/programme/film. This is of course as opposed to a carefully constructed marketing campaign.

Re: "Can I get?"

We don't need input from the Americans when our star BBC newreaders come out with:

"Three times as much than”, in Radio 4 News, just after 7pm recently.

Strictly, maybe it should be "Are you being served?" but that has unfortunate associations.

Re: "Can I get?"

In the US I asked if "I could have some xxxx please" and the person looked very confused until I translated to "can I get some xxxx"

It's all down to the ramping up of the superlative adjective...
