Oystercatchers in Langstone Harbour

This hobby is quite exciting. I often see these birds on the shoreline. They are very skittish and fly off as soon as you approach. Usually to be seen individually but when the tide is in they leave the shoreline and head inland. I found these birds on top of a grassy slope overlooking the sea.

Their alarm call is shrill and they call out as they take off.

Re: Oystercatchers in Langstone Harbour

Thanks Rob.

Its difficult to capture them whilst the tide is out but they seem a bit braver when they are in the air and as a flock.

Kind regards

There is something painterly about your pictures. The colour and style are very different and remind me more of bird artists than photographers. It captures the passion you have for them.

best wishes

I love these birds. Here is one taken on my local beach.

Thank you Peter. I deliberately left the foreground grass in the image to try and provide a reference rather than just birds and sky. The out of focus grass does create the impression its a painting.

I am getting my A3 printer tomorrow and I might just try to print this in A3 and frame it.

cheers

Lovely image Ian. Its strange that, before I started all this at the end of last year, seabirds were seagulls and not much more. When you start to look properly, its amazing what you see.

Best wishes

If you lived closer I could help - as I am a framer - hence the handle!

But should look good with a sensitive treatment.

Any tips for me please? Would a Matt paper be better?

Thanks

I would probably print it on heavy archival matt. It needs a wide window mount, probably pure white, and I would suggest a deep bevel. You should look for a very simple frame to keep the airy quality. IMHO

Peter

PS also take off the lettering and hand sign the print in the green corner
