Arrow The E-30 competition, further details

It certainly looks like the competition announcement has made a lot of people pay attention

Full details and rules will be posted in a few days, but here are the key details:

1. You have plenty of time; entries will close on 15th January 2009, about the time the E-30 is expected to start selling.

2. The competition will, naturally, be photographic in nature and the theme is "Images of Winter".

3. The idea is to encourage you all to get out there using your cameras over the next two months, so pictures should be taken between now and the closing date.

4. Entries will be displayed in a special album on the e-group gallery, so you will need to be a site member (which is free) to be able to enter your picture.

5. You will be able to enter up to 3 pictures.

6. A short list from the entries will be determined and the short listed entries and the winner will be decided from the short list.

7. Site members will have a significant role in deciding who wins - more on that later.

8. You need to use an Olympus digital camera (proof, such as image file exif metadata) will be required, though you won't necessarily have to use a DSLR.

9. Entrants must be residents in the UK or Ireland, and must have full ownership and rights to any entered pictures.

10. Neither Olympus nor The Write Technology Ltd will make any claim over the ownership or exclusive rights to the use of your pictures, but the short listed images may be required for some promotional use - full details will be in the competition rules.

That should be enough to get you going! The full rules will be published here later.

If you have any questions - just post them here.

Good luck, and have fun

Re: The E-30 competition, further details

I've been asked to clarify who is eligible. The competition is open to anyone in the UK - England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, as well as the islands like Isle of Man, Channel Islands, etc., and also Eire (Southern Ireland). It's to do with the region served by Olympus UK.

Re: The E-30 competition, further details

Fantastic competition Ian, with an awesome prize.

So folks... I have to say I have seen some superb images taken by the members on here and on FTU using their Olympus kit, especially in the latest e-group challenge #10, where Makonde produced a wonderfully moving winning shot. So... let's get out there with our kit and get some super images entered into the gallery - knowing the talent that there is here on e-group and over on FTU, it really is everyones competition to win.

You wont win if you don't get an image entered though... so - click away, and enjoy.

Just wondering ... will the winner be judged on the best single photo - or on the combination of his/her three possible entries?

The judging will ultimately be on one image, but you can have up to three images entered.

Are we restricted in what lens we use? Does it have to be an 'E' system lens or are we free to use milk bottles and the like?

Ah! No - it just has to be an Olympus digital camera of some description. No problem if you use some weird legacy lenses!

EXIF data evidence will be required.

Re: The E-30 competition, further details

As this is an important competition have you thought about using an independant judge? I don't think that allowing members to vote will necessarily result in the best image. Just their favourite.

We definitely want to involve the members in the judging process, but we will also involve an independent judge.

In our last competition on Four Thirds User we got the members to vote for the short list of finalists and the independent judge, veteran photographer Barry Lategan, chose the winner.

We could do this again or do it the other way around...
