Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

I just updated my E-M1's firmware and I noticed that the software does not recognize my 12-40mm. It does recognize my 75mm but not the 12-40mm. Any idea what might be the cause of this?

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

No, but to help diagnose the problem have you got a 2nd body you could try the lens on? It would help to know if it's an issue with the lens or with the camera.
Did you update with lens attached.

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

Is the lens talking to the camera when taking a picture ie does it stop down correctly when pressing the shutter. If not then clean the pins and pads on the ledns and body. If still not working then it sounds as if it is a fault in the lens as the 75-300 is recognised.

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

Unfortunately I don't have a second body to test it. The lens seems to be communicating with the camera fine both in terms of mm and f. but the software doesn't recognize it whereas with the 75mm (f/1.8) it does

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

When you say the software doesn't recognise it, what software are you referring to, the in-camera S/W (firmware) or the olympus S/W to update the camera - part of the viewer suit?

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

the olympus software (Olympus digital camera updater). I recall updating the firmware of the 12-40mm a couple of months back when I bought the lens (or at least the software recognizing the lens)

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

I had issues with the olympus camera update s/w supplied on disc when updating my EP5. I downloaded the latest version of viewer (2, I think) and all was fine. Worth a shot, if you haven't already tried this of course.

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

Do you know anyone with an olympus camera who would let you try on theirs to determine whether the anomaly follows the lens. If not I'd scour the 4/3 network, posting if you can, and possibly an email to Olympus. The question to answer: is it a result of the EM1 update, or has the lens developed a really strange condition enabling it to reveal itself to the camera but somehow 'hide' itself from the Olympus server running the update software.
I guess the lack of response here suggests one of two or three things: either they don't have the EM1 and the 12-40, or have one or other but not both, or have both but have not attempted the update.
Best of luck.

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

I used the olympus viewer to check for software updates and it seems that I'm using the latest version. (Viewer 3, v 1.21). The camera recognizes the lens fine and it even shows on the exif info as it should. But nothing on the update software. This is what I'm getting

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

There hasn't been any updates for that lens yet & maybe that is why it isn't showing up. That may change when there is an update. Perhaps others can verify what they see if they connect the E-M1 (with the 12-40 attached) for an update (but have already updated the body to 1.4).

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

So what does it look like when you attach the 75mm lens? If any lens is up to date no further changes can be made. Is your query that the screen dump above doesn't name the lens (i.e. model number) but does when you have the 75 attached?

Re: Olympus Updates software not recognizing my lens

I think this is normal - my sample 14-42 pancake zoom does the same thing. I'm sure Olympus will sort it out at some stage. I would not worry about it.
