70 years on...

At 5.00am tomorrow i'll be on the way to Normandy to be part of the celebrations of DDay 70 years on....taking the camera of course....so i'm hoping to be able to post a few pics when I get back next week....I've always wanted to see the Normandy beaches and memorials so I think it's going to be quite an occasion probably the last that the remaining few veterans will attend...

Cheers

Peter

Re: 70 years on...

My father was at the Normady landings. I went there a few years ago and found the actual beach he landed on, I found it very moving. I can only imagine what it was like, he very rarely spoke of it and when he did, by the look on his face, he was back there.

My dad was a wee bit too young for Normandy. Instead he parachuted into Norway and freed the labour camps. Wouldn't talk of it.

Re: 70 years on...

I was there in the summer of 1986. I did three weeks of the beaches, the battle to break out and far too many cemeteries. Sadly before I got into serious photography!

Re: 70 years on...

My Uncle Bill RN arrived on a Landing Craft Tank with the commander of the 7th Dragoon Guards - Goldsmith. They hit a mine on dropping the front door down at Gold and while the tanks went all of the way to Arnhem he was taken back to the UK by another RN ship complete with a wound.
