Viewer 2 always freezes on it's first run

Help. Since I went Olympus about 6 months back I have had a problem with Olympus Viewer 2 (V1.41) on Win7.

100% repeatably, the program ALWAYS FREEZES first time I try to download images from the camera. It all goes fine, then gets as far as showing the countdown dial, - then does nothing.

I need to CTRL-ALT-DEL into task manager to kill the application.

I re-start Viewer 2, and it ALWAYS IS COMPLETELY OK after that (for the duration of the Win7/computer session).

This is not fatal but it so very irritating. Nowadays I am ready with CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons before I even begin. It adds a minute to every download whenever the computer has been turned off beforehand.

Half the time if I'm not using RAW I just resort to my old Canon Zoombrowser instead which is faster and reliable.

Has anyone come across this?

PS (added later).. I just realized this is a E-DSLR group I joined. OOps.. Sorry to barge in with an amateur XZ-1 problem, but the issue is with the software not with the operator!

Sounds irritating, but I've not had this problem, Viewer 2 works perfectly for me.

Re: Viewer 2 always freezes on it's first run

Hi Justin. It might be windows 7 having issues finding the photos if there are many. I notice that it can take a while if I have a lot in each folder (which is usually by month with my present method of filing them).

You might need to uninstall Oly Viewer & re-install again (I know it's a pain), to get around this issue. I don't have that problem & I use it all the time. If you didn't let it install in default locations, that might be an issue too.

I hope you can sort it, but sometimes you have to try things to 'suck & see'.

Another method (that I also use all the time) is to use a card reader & not the camera. It might be a camera recognition issue too (by windows). BTW, the camera needs to be connected at least once to allow video viewing after re-installing.

OK Thanks guys.
Tried those solutions previously. re-installing, upgraded SW etc. As you say it's most likely Win7 problem.

Not to worry I can live with it..
