New member from Cumbria

Hi,
name is Mark (but the user name sort of gives that away) I'm 25, married and have 2 children aged 4 and 2.
I live in the South Lakes, in Cumbria, I currently own a Conon Ixus 95IS compact camera and am looking to upgrade to a DSLR as I am finding the limitations of the compact frustrating to say the least.............

I have been looking for a while now at all options and have settled (I think) on either the e-620 or e-600 Camera's, as they have both the features I am looking for and fit my budget (just about) so I guess its now just a case of finding one,

Expect a few posts from me when I get stuck or confused about something.

I'm not new to forums but I am to camera ones and this looked to be the correct place to join based on the above

oh, one final note, don't take me to seriously, I like a bit of sarcasm

Hi and welcome Mark. You've come to the right place for help and advice when you finally find a camera. Don't forget to post some pics when you've taken a few.

Hi Mark,

don't know if you've looked at the For Sale section yet but the above link is to a "twin lens" kit E-600 for 300.

No connection to the seller - just pointing it out.

NB - you don't have enough posts to PM directly yet so you'll have to get the seller to contact you.

Cheers
Sid

Re: New member from Cumbria

Ebay seems to be about the only place now and there are also one or two E3s on there as well, many with the 14-42 and 40-150 lenses included which are both pretty decent lenses. Look at some of the larger photo company websites as well both for cameras and price guidance if you start ebay bidding. I find London Camera Exchange one of the best for secondhand and they will do postal delivery if you do not find one locally.

Be very wary on ebay as some badly damaged items are being offered for spare or repair at ridiculous prices especially as most manufacturer repairs start around 100

As a long time Olympus user I would simply say do not be beguiled by the Canonikon empire as I find there model range totally confusing and expensive.

Good hunting

Thanks for the warm welcome, this is a friendly place

I have a flicker account if anybody is interested in pics I have taken or my general photography style, just don't want to go posting pics from my little compact on here and upset anyone

I had spotted that Sid, its half the reason I ended up here in the first place (got to love google) I might be getting in touch with the seller as I was interested in it

I was going to compile both replies into my last post but feel this individual replies will help my post count somewhat

I have had a look on ebay and am watching one with the 14-42 lenghtings that finishes tomorrow, I have my budget in mind but ideally don't want to go mad,

I had a good look at both canon and nikkons but found them to be massively under specced for the same money as the olympus.

the e-420 is what originally drew me to the olympus range and then after more investigation and looking I settled on the better spec'd 600 & 620 models (ideally the 620 due to the lit buttons as I like night photography but I could live without it )

Welcome Mark, and you are picking a good camera system with the E-6xx; just take a look at some of Snaarman's pics.

I went for an E620, you won't be disappointed at that price point.

Thanks for the welcomes, happy new year to you all too

The e-6xx range seems to be well specced for the money, better so than a lot of the other manufacturers models at the same price anyway............
