58mm Vari ND Filter (2-8 stops)

I'd ordered this ages (a couple of months) ago and it never arrived.... it arrived today!! Same as shown here, but I no longer have the lens to put it on as I moved to primes only and have ND's for those, so it's for sale.

Off topic, but I'm interested that you are going all primes, as I'm thinking that way also, with a couple of exceptions. What, if anything, are you using as long lenses on your Pen?

Re: 58mm Vari ND Filter (2-8 stops)

Stephen - no long lenses at the moment (45mm F1.8 the longest), but I've found that they're not something I use anyway. That's not to say I wouldn't love a 100mm prime for m43, but I can easily get by without it for the way I shoot.

We do find ourselves at a slight quality disadvantage sensor-wise, despite what people protest otherwise, and I just find all the primes to be of such good quality that they absolutely get the best out of the sensor - even at wide apertures the quality is normally superb, plus the speed advantage that allows you to keep the ISO down, which once again helps to keep quality up.

The size/wieght of them is another factor - you can have a PEN body with one lens on a strap and a prime in each pocket and not even realise you're carrying anything.

Re: 58mm Vari ND Filter (2-8 stops)

My thinkings exactly Derek. But I'd not want to get rid of my 7-14mm! My longest prime, excluding the 90mm Tamron with an adaptor, is the 75mm Voigtlander. I'm hankering after the 12mm mZuiko, but it's not cheap!

Re: 58mm Vari ND Filter (2-8 stops)

Can't blame you with regards to the 7-14mm - you've probably got near enough prime image quality with that one anyway. The 12mm is nice, but the price is..... Ouch! I don't think I'd even consider it if I had the 7-14mm.....

Re: 58mm Vari ND Filter (2-8 stops)

It's just the maximum aperture - f4 can be a bit limiting sometimes!
