Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

As per title, I carried my lens upstairs and the hood fell apart as I put it down , prior to attaching it to my Oly. I have the bits. I have read that this is a thing and not just me.

What have others done about this to resolve it please? I have read that Olympus do replace them but those posts on another forum were from a couple of years ago. Really disappointed with this.

Re: Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

I was told at the photography show when it was being cleaned that mine had a fault and to send it in for a free repair.
The bottom ring just clips off with gentle pressure.
When I rang in I was told to also send in proof of purchase and any warranty details.
Never got round to it yet will have to do it soon.
Best of luck with yours.

Re: Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

happened to me last september after arriving in Lisbon, I rang the Olympus service number explained my predicament and they agreed to ship a replacement to me at the hotel and collect the broken one.

During the telephone call they looked at my list of Oly kit and commented on how much stuff I had (whether that helped me not I do not know).

As an aside Cannon make a regular style lens hood that does replace the Oly one and JJC make a copy called the LH-78II which is quite a bit cheaper.

Mine 'self-destructed' too and I bought one of the JJC replacement hoods which works perfectly in the old-fashioned (but simple) way by fitting it in reverse over the lens.
I might send the broken original back to Olympus as I kept most of the parts and didn't realise it was something they might fix out of warranty.

I wrote Olympus and they sent a new one. The lens was less than 8 months old.

Re: Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

Have to add that my lens hood on the 40-150mm came apart. Fortunately it was just the ring that came off, and I have refitted it, so far so good...………

Also have to add, it was several months before I understood how it worked...

Mine did the same about a year ago.

I managed to re-assemble it but, I still have no idea how it actually works.

When I first had the beast, I used to actually take off the lens hood and reverse it I think. It was always a bit of a struggle.....Then suddenly, accidentally, it just retracted and I thought "How wonderful is that"...…………..

Hearing/reading all this on how fragile, I had it removed and stored away. I have in it's place a 2" screw on hood.

Re: Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

Well, mine returned [from Spain!] today and looked brand new although the work sheet stated that it had been repaired and clean. It was pretty good before it went but if they had told me it was new I would have believed it. I sent evidence of the original purchase and my email to the owner and they still repaired it free of charge. Good service. Hopefully, they won't create another one that does that. It has gone back in the box and I am using a substitute now JCC or JJC - can't see the box.

Am I the only one with a 40-150 lens hood still keeping together? Lens has been used for ~3 years.

Me too, after what must be ~5. I’m not going to mention it, though, ‘cos it would be sure to fall apart straight away if I did.

Re: Olympus 40 - 150 Pro Lens Hood just fell apart

Consider buying a 3rd party replacement and keeping the hood safe should you need / want to resell. One story I have read recounts getting the repaired hood back for it to fall apart again within a couple of weeks!
