Re: 50mm prime

The best 50mm lens for miles is the Zuiko 50mm. It's sold as a macro lens, but of course it's the sharpest quality at any focal length. (I presume you're talking standard 4/3?)

Re: 50mm prime

Hi!
I own a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 for four thirds and I couldn't be happier
I bought it at OneStopDigital (you'll find the website on google) and it was delivered in 4 working days!

Re: 50mm prime

Another recommendation for the 50 f/2 an absolute peach of a lens,
Here is an example (image of my two daughters at f/2.5).

Yes John, the Oly 50mm is a 1:2 Macro.

It is also cited as one of the sharpest lenses ever made.

Yes it is but as John says it is an extremely high quality optic that excels both at (1:2) macro and portraiture.
Have a look at this review

Re: 50mm prime

I also suggest Zuiko 50mm f/2 Macro.

A versatile lens.

Not the brightest portrait lens (f/2 instead of f/1.4 or less), not the best Macro (1:2 instead of 1:1), doesn't have the fastest AF and is definitely not cheap!

But! Very sharp even wide open, it provides very attractive bokeh and OoF rendering, it is very good for close-ups, it works well with EC-14 for more serious macro work and it provides that IQ that cannot be measured by lab tests, yet you know that it is something special.

Re: 50mm prime

I've always been interested in this lens and I was seriously considering buying it. But eventually I decided that I needed a way larger and therefore brighter aperture (mainly for churches shots) and I found this Sigma 50mm F1.4 which was also cheaper although it's not a macro lens.

Re: 50mm prime

Here's an example of the bokeh that's available from this lens...
