DXO Photolab

just launched ... downloaded and installed OK

http://www.dxo.com/us/photography/ph...e/dxo-photolab

It now includes local Adjustments using the technology from Nik and IMO that makes it a winner as it solves the one thing that ever bothered me

I've not had time to have a real play with it yet, but the local adjustment does seem to work

For DXO11 users the upgrade price is 55 (well it was for me at least)

Regards
Andy

Re: DXO Photolab

Agreed, they have fixed the one thing that was missing - local adjustments. Now we know why they really bought Nik! Well worth the upgrade.

Re: DXO Photolab

Great upgrade, did mine a few days ago.

Interestingly it also left OP 11 still in place and usable as well.

That's interesting mine never did, it just updated/upgraded the installed version and renamed it.

Re: DXO Photolab

Maybe I installed as a trial before paying - my memory may also be at fault

In this case I installed the new software as registered straight away and it definitely left DXO 11 in place

Re: DXO Photolab

I still have DxO 9 and 10 as well! I will upgrade to the new version soon so I guess I'll have four versions to choose from then.

Re: DXO Photolab

Well I've got a day off work and its so foggy outside I stayed in ...

All seems very well with the new upgrade the new local adjustments from the NIK technology seems to be well integrated (you can swap between global and local adjustments quite easily)

Here are a couple showing local adjustment on clearview and vibrancy. before the upgrade I would have had to output one version with the sky and one with the foreground and blend them as layers because I would be worried that clearview would just give grey clouds.

My only gripe is that as a totally new install it has not pulled across my preferences (personal default preset and to not use sidecar files which I detest littering up my hard drive), that took only 5 minutes to resolve apart from that no issues.

Regards
Andy

Re: DXO Photolab

Out of interest is the only functionality from NIK the selective ability ie like control points.
I use this but also like to be able to stack multiple filters.
I know people have only just got this and I will trial it at some point.

Thanks.

Yes you seem to be able to be able to stack layers of adjustment added a stormy sky to the effect above

Re: DXO Photolab

Yep. I downloaded the trial Elite 11 and loved it and I like Photo loab even more.

I am not tempted to spend the extra on the two add ons, but I think it's a great software package.

Re: DXO Photolab

I had a DXO full system free trial, and was about to subscribe when I found this new free trial of the basic version, and this one doesn't seem to have a time limit. http://www.dxo.com/us/practicalphotography (It says you have to claim by the end of Nov but I did successfully yesterday)

I didn't use any of the elite edition features during my trial anyway (except to test them) so I might stick with this for a while. I do like DXO Photolab; limited functionality, but image quality and usability excellent, intuitive to use and needing a very low investment in learning to achieve improvements.

Re: DXO Photolab

I just took a look at that link and I'm just making people aware that it is for V11 the last version before the NIK point adjustments were included

Those were what took this over from being a superb raw processor (prime NR is absolutely superb) into an overall development suite

If you don't need the latter then V11 is still great, but IMO the adjustment features are worth paying for

Regards
Andy
