Re: Astro Photos

Great detail in this shot recognise some of the star patterns which will let me know where to look for these features.

Re: Astro Photos

They are really good Dave, really impressed. I have a stupid question as well, If you are shooting 2 minute exposures how are you keeping the stars from streaking?

Re: Astro Photos

I got an equatorial mount for my birthday it makes a big difference. It has goto and built in tracking like yours.

I think yours is an alt-az mount so you would need to add an equatorial wedge to do really long exposures. But, you can achieve the same result by doing lots of shorter ones. You should be able to get at least 30secs without trails appearing maybe 40 secs then stack them in DSS.

I am realising that I need at least a total of 30mins worth of exposures to get some detail but really its more like 60 or even 90 minutes to get really amazing stuff then I run in to battery issues with the camera.

If you get the bug for astrophotography your wallet suffers.

I've only just caught up with this thread. Wow.

I can't help but look at those other galaxies and wonder. They are very compelling. Thank you for sharing.

Re: Astro Photos

Finally managed last night to get guiding working after many attempts over the last few weeks.
Again, used EM5mk2 with Nikon 80-400 zoom lens . Stacked 10 x 3min and 5 x 4min exposures.

I know I think its my post processing. Here is a link to one I further processed in PS to increase the colour saturation.
What do you think?

Re: Astro Photos

On the Flickr image the star colours are much better but the sharpening on M33 need a little taming.
This is all looking good...you will have to do a tutorial for us when you are happy to

Re: Astro Photos

Not sure I am good enough to write a tutorial but I will try and write down the main steps
( mostly missteps ) I made to get this far and what I have learnt.
