Uploading/posting photos.

I've seen a few posts where people were saying they couldn't upload or post photos. Now I can't find those posts to point Ian at them. So anyone having problems post here detailing the problem please.

I for one David,

Since the server upgrade I have failed to upload any images to an existing post ( have not yet tried a 'new" post of my own ) , when attempting to upload direct from my computer I get a message along the lines of .... "invalid file type" even though the image is a 65kb jpeg

Similar thing happens when using a URL although the worded response is a little different.

I have rebooted the computer, closed and reopened Safari, shut the computer down for a few hours and then tried again only to be presented with the same hurdle.

Damn frustrating I must say

Regards Simon

Thanks Simon, I think one of your posts was one of the posts I saw about the problem and then couldn't find.

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

Just tried to upload again, from "my photo's" in the forum. When I copy the URL code as told to do and paste it into the "choose file" box of the "file management" page I again get the following response ..... Upload error "Invalid file Type"

I am going to go and bang my head against the wall now

Regards Simon

Hi Ian,

Yes that is it, I was trying to show Roger my Rolleiflex but just could not get that or any other image to upload. I will try again to see if the problem is now resolved.

Kind regards Simon

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

No still no joy Ian,

The same message just keeps appearing ..... "this is not a valid image type" ..... if so how have you succeeded ?

I can post ok but not upload images, I'm not a whiz with the workings of a computer but I do know that since the server update I have not done anything different when attempting to upload images to what I did previously therefore this is very baffling to me.

BTW I use an Intel powered Mac not a PC if it makes any difference.

Regards Simon

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

OK Ian I have just directed Roger ( Cariadus ) to my image by pasting the URL into the text of my reply. Instead of the URL link being shown the actual image has appeared in my reply so that is something. I'm afraid I'm not too clued-up on the inner workings of a computer but understand that getting an image onto a post via this method is no hardship, however I still cannot upload either direct from my computer or URL on this forum if I use the "manage attachments" option.

Regards Simon

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

I had the same when I tried to upload images of my E-1 and SHLD-2 that I offered for sale. I couldn't upload to a new album nor could I attach them to the original post. Nothing I did worked - I got the same message "Invalid File Type". I got round it by uploading the images to a folder on my website and pasting the url into an updated post on the forum.

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

I just tried uploading 2 photos myself and on the processing page I got this error:

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/bin/jpegtran) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/egroup:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in /home/egroup/public_html/gallery/image-inc.php on line 579

Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/bin/jpegtran) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/egroup:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in /home/egroup/public_html/gallery/image-inc.php on line 579

But the photos did upload and are in my gallery. These are the photos:
http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/5...-1_800x600.jpg

(I have deliberately given the URL of the files, not shown the photos.)

Simon, the photo is in your gallery:

Re: Uploading/posting photos.

Are we talking about forum post attachments or the gallery?

They are completely unrelated systems.
