Dear Mr Olympus.....

As a proud owner of your DSLR's for the past few years, and having progressed (albeit in a non obvious way ) from E500, to E3, to E30, and most recently E1, can I suggest the following for the E7

Based on the E5 and keeping the CF & SD dual cards, and HD video (full HD would be nice).

But please bring back:

From the E1
-The eyepiece (that does not keep falling off)
-The shutter (that sounds so subtle)
-The S-C-M focus switch
-The hard port/socket cover (not the rubber plugs of late)
-The neck strap loops
-The screen cover (to work with the vari angle and closing screen)

From the E3
-The On/Off switch
-The IS button
-The memory card door latch

From the E30
-The mode/scene dial
-The 4 way control & OK buttons

Also a if a new grip is needed then can we also go back to the BLL-1 battery?

For all of this I would happily forego the mirror (as long as it was still full 4/3rds).

Yours in anticipation.

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

Having started with an OM1 in 1976 I'd like an E-410 with the OM1 viewfinder, you can lose the pop-up flash to make space for it.

And I don't need the mode dial, just put a switch to select aperture priority or manual like the OM2.

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

If only

We have gone down this path many times here Jason prior to the E-3s launch. The Mode dial and focus switch top my list and certainly an eyepiece that doesn't fall off would be heaven. The build of the cardslot door on the E-1 was never matched by any of its sucessors. The E-1s hard port/socket cover was far better, as you say, than the rubber ones but even better would be to put the remote socket and flash socket behind it also and get rid of the fiddly caps.

The list goes on ........................

Dreams, dreams

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

PS, Mr Olympus.

The Pen is surely a Lovely Thing, but I can't use a rear screen all day long. I want a small SLR with an electronic viewfinder that takes our expensive 4/3 lenses.

No, not a Pen with an EVF added, then an adapter added then a lens. No. A E650. Let me help: Take the E620. Remove the mirror and viewfinder. Add a EVF. You get a E620 but with a large quality viewfinder. Lovely!

Yours respectfully

Pete

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

When I went from the e30 to e5 I did miss the mode dial, but after time I don't miss it at all and find I work faster without it. The focus switch would be very useful though

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

I take it this thread is tongue in cheek seeing as the 4/3rds system is now deceased?

Or is my information as to its demise wrong?

I can't seem to find any threads here relating to Olympus' decision to scrap it. Have I missed them?

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

Sadly, yes, it is a tounge in cheek thread.

However I agree that there is little by way of official output from olympus regarding the future of 4/3rds, most people seem to be piecing together the scraps of detail available and filling in the blanks.

Still I can live in hope!

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

Never say never. They have admitted they can't pack in 4/3 yet, just haven't announced any new models and then again the e5 hasn't been out for long. I do think there will be an e50 or e7 in the future

Re: Dear Mr Olympus.....

I'd heard nothing of the end of 4/3rds until I happened across this E5 review which, in the last section, seems to herald a definite death:

His view is that M4/3 will be Olympus' way forward. Have there been any rumours about other plans if the standard 4/3 goes, perhaps to a full size sensor?

For me, it makes little difference as I just dabble, but for those of you with seriously expensive lenses the lack of a next generation 4/3rds camera would be a blow. If/when Olympus DO announce, I guess that will push 2nd hand prices down as some clear out their 'old' kit as quickly as possible to obtain as much as possible toward a new Olympus system, IF there is any other than M4/3.

There was me a few months ago digging out my 30 year old OM2n to trade up to the new age of Olympus, only to find myself at the back end of their next masterpiece (?). Ah well, I only wanted a move to digital from film and the E-1 and E-620 kit will serve me very well for years to come until 3D or holographic images tempt me!
