Original South Wales

Feel very jealous of Mark's excellent sea pictures from New South Wales I threw packet of waggon wheels and an old dog blanket in the back of the trusty Metro and headed off down the M4 to find the surf. Mrs Beagle insisted on stopping at every services for a 'comfort break' so 6 hours and 3 litres of engine oil later we pulled into the Original South Wales visitor car park. Having slight jet lag, or Metro fatigue, we nestled down in the back for a refreshing nap before emptying our pockets at the pay and display machine and heading out to make best use of the remaining light.

It was a beautiful sunny day and the surf was up.

A light breeze barely moved the flags.

Leaving the beach we headed off to find an ice cream.

After a couple of hours steady marching there was still no van in sight.

But we did discover a new variety of hawthorn hedge - Donni Trumpii.

Those dudes won't cut it for the Taffra surf rescue team.

And wot, no bikini babes?

In all other respects, a workmanlike set there Beag'.

Especially the last - that bush is about to crush him.

Did you build the wall or was it already there?

The Bikini Babes were all in the local chippy trying to ward off anorexia.

I didn't build the wall, the Romans did to keep the locals in.

The Romans weren't stupid, were they.
The only mistake they made was not building it high enough.

To be fair most of it drips out, but very handy when you need to get home, just follow the spots.

Thanks, you've just reminded me to check my oil.
Haven't done so since I got back from the trip.

Last oil change: 265,000km = 164,000 mi

present odometer reading = 272,000 km = 169,000 mi

Total mileages since oil change: 4,350 km = 2700 mi

Oil level now: Not bad for an old bird, but as useless as Google for oil spot navigation. Buy a hard copy road map and follow signage to destination.
When you visit Oz, forget about Google navigation in rural areas, it is completely unreliable and can send you hundreds of kms in the wrong direction.

Re: Original South Wales

Nice clean oil. Same as the Metro as it gets changed every 600 miles. I've taken to using 90 percent sunflower oil and 10 dissolved lard to help thicken the mix. It's better for the environment, but does smell like an Chinese restaurant. It's easy to see on the dipstick when cold as the lard solidifies on the stick.

Sent from my cracked folding Samsung.

Re: Original South Wales

Have you tried adding a few banana skins to reduce piston slap?

Not tried that, but I think you slipped up on your math?

Re: Original South Wales

Oil change every 600 miles, gosh that must get close to the cost of petrol per mile
Hopefully you meant 6000 miles?

It's just the cost of owning one of these rare classics. Just trying to keep her on the road for everyone to enjoy.
