No-one replies to your posts?

I'm impressed how this forum has taken off recently...

I try to keep up and generally check in several times a day. However: We just came back from seven days away and I clicked on the New Posts thingy... and got 9 pages of unread posts I doubt will get through them all so I'm sure I will have missed some gems.

So: If you wonder why your words of wisdom don't create 15 minutes of fame, it's cos the forum is so active these days, which is good news in a way.

Why comment a whole week and only 343 shots?

Oh dear. I'm getting a lot of stick for only taking 300-ish shots in a week

My excuse is we did have two days of thunderstorms and I did spend time testing the beer and wine...

Fear not, next time I'll either take more pictures, or lie

Re: No-one replies to your posts?

Getting back to something like the original, very sound, observation

I too had noticed this and in particular how many good images go uncommented on which could perhaps be a demotivation for some. I wonder if it's time to consider splitting Foto Fair into some broad subject matter groups to stop images "falling off the first page" so quickly ?

We could have areas such as

  • landscape
  • portrait
  • nature/wildlife
  • still life
  • sport
  • abstract
  • fine art

or something like that. Don't want to make it too complex but the idea is to keep images on the front page a bit longer to attract comments over a longer period.

Just a thought.

cheers

Hec

Re: No-one replies to your posts?

To be honest, and not wanting to stop anyone posting pics, but I find that "image" posts tend to force "other" posts off the front page. Don't know what the answer is, although Hec's thoughts about sub-dividing picture posts into categories is a sound one.

Re: No-one replies to your posts?

Actually - I'm sure I've seen a forum somewhere that inserts a thumbnail of the post's first image next to the title of each thread, so you can scan for interesting images at a glance. You can also spot threads you read recently.

I don't know if all those thumbnails just makes the unread lists more bulky but it makes them more attractive to browse..

Re: No-one replies to your posts?

I will admit, because I don't have much self-confidence as a photographer, if a post is unanswered the temptation is to think, "That bad, huh?"

That's the whole problem when the forum gets busy...

No replies
may not mean no good

However I don't mean to complain. It's good to see lots of activity..

Re: No-one replies to your posts?

Get in the habit of clicking the "Unanswered" tab on the top bar,
TalkPhotography has a similar button and I like doing my charitable bit sometimes and pointing out blown highlights, ugly brides and unsharp corners. (Actually kidding )

when I was working in Dallas - I collected photos of MASSIVE people ... I have lots of shots ... many 36 Stone - I only printed them A5 but always tried to get a comparative item in shot
