A Lonely Little Petunia in the Onion Patch

Well, actually, it isn't a Petunia, it is a Grape Hyacinth in amongst the Spring Stars. The title just came to mind!

Lyn, pardon me if I am a bit down ... Friday was like a Summers Day here - I sunbathed and turned a slightly bright shade of pink ... then a little light tanned ... now I am Purple and Blue as its so darn cold here, oh! and WET !

I love the "Spring Stars" I have never seen them before are they a AUS native? the Grape Hyacinths we have loads of here ... and more every year !

Aside from the title that doesn't quite fit and a few blown highlights, it's a lovely concept Lyn!

Thanks for looking Ed, Chevvy and Mark.

Chevvy - The Spring Stars are Ipheion uniflorum - they multiply like mad once you have them and are one of those no-fuss bulbs that just come up and naturalize every year. It is native to Argentina and related to the Onion family.
I got a bit cute with the title!!

I've never seen Spring Stars before, at least not that I remember. What a wonderful show they make.

Re: A Lonely Little Petunia in the Onion Patch

Hi Chevvy - You shouldn't have any trouble getting these bulbs. They are readily available here in pkts in Garden Centres and supermarkets, and Mail Order firms have them too.
If you cannot get them I would be happy to post you some. Quarantine laws probably prohibit me sending my garden ones because of the soil, but I would think a commercial pkt would be ok.
Just be warned that they multiply like crazy - so once you have them, you have them for all time!
This is not a great photo, but this is how they make a pretty border once established. This is our driveway.
