Where have all the birds gone.

Up until a couple of days ago my garden was constantly visited by a variety of birds, Goldfinch being the most commom. There were that many, sometimes eight or more at one time that I resorted to putting up another Nyger feeder to prevent squabbles. The last couple of days all I have seen is one passing Coal Tit and one Great Tit, even the Pigeons dont come to clean up the leftovers. Can this be put down to the fine early Spring resulting in earlier breeding/fledging leading to an earlier moult or is there another explanation? Would be interested to hear from more experienced birders on this, regards, Ian W.

Re: Where have all the birds gone.

Don't think that moulting is a factor with "garden birds" it's mainly ducks and geese that are flightless when they moult. More likely they've just found a new and plentiful source of food in the surroundings and fancied a change. I'm sure they will be back when the novelty wears off.

Regards.

You need to see it from their point of view:

The kids have left home
They get free flights
Who in their right mind is going to stay in bluddy Northampton whilst the sun shines
