Smile Pictures from Skye

There is now a new forum meet category in the gallery for Skye at:

http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/1215

Please post your Skye pix from this week there please

We were blessed with generally very good weather today. The bright sunshine interspersed with fluffy clouds did mean the light was a mixture of bright highlights and dark shadows, so it was a challenge photographically!

Here is a random selection of mine from today:

Group photo outside the Talisker distillery.

A wild orchid.

Iain's perch!

Sunset at the end of Seonnaidh's drive way!

The weather looks set fine for tomorrow morning when we'll be setting sail in search of Sea Eagles

Re: Pictures from Skye

Mmmm, I can almost taste the Talisker! That's a good day's shooting, Ian, with plenty of variety. You best get to bed now, if you're going to catch that sunrise!

Re: Pictures from Skye

The gallery photos are great, but I hope everyone will update this thread with their photos and comments...it's much easier to view.

Sounds like you're all having a great time. I look forward to seeing more shots tomorrow.

Night night!

Janet

Re: Pictures from Skye

Well, it's 8.30am and I would have thought the guys would be back from their sunrise shoot by now, perhaps posting some of their pictures over a hearty breakfast!

We didn't do a sunrise shoot, instead we had breakfast at 8:30 down near where we went by boat to see white-tailed sea eagles. I think I have some decent shots too

After that we spent the rest of the day touring from one amazing vista point to another - not even had lunch!

Just returned to Seonnaidh's house and am downloading the 600+ RAWs I have shot today

I'll be adding some more shots to the gallery and here within an hour!

Why no sunrise? You don't have to be on location much before 3.30am at this time of year!

Seriously, hope you had a good day photographing the sea eagles and scenery, and hope the weather was better than we've had down south! Really looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Re: Pictures from Skye (sea eagles!)

Just a few minutes by boat from the sleepy harbour at Portree and you get to see these:

These were taken with the E-5 and 35-100 and are considerably cropped because I should have used a longer lens - a 50-200 would have been much better for the job.

We had two chances to see the eagles catch the fish offered to them and on the second sortie I messed up the settings and over exposed by around 1.5 stops - can tell which shot of those above it is?

Re: Pictures from Skye

Wow, I'm not into bird shots at all, but what a magnificent bird that is! What kind of wingspan do those things have?

Was it shot No 2 that you had to pull back the exposure on?

Re: Pictures from Skye

Wow, it was worth the long trip to Skye for the eagle trip alone!

Re: Pictures from Skye

Ian has just read your comment and is very pleased with your comment.
The rest of us are of course well envious.
I can tell you specifically that the wing span of that particular bird (a female) is
9ft 2".
It wasn't the 2nd shot that was over exposed!

Re: Pictures from Skye

Reagarding which one is from the set of overexposed shots, I'd say No5.
