The lochs around there are are almost as deep as the mountains are high!

It was only in recent years that the true depth of Loch Ness was measured accurately at 230 metres or 755'.

IIRC a specially designed submersible was used to look for signs of Nessie as conventional submarines don't usually dive to such depths.
