Shy Bullfinch

I was surprised when seasoned bird spotters were getting excited when they spotted this bullfinch. Apparently they are shy birds and keep well into the undergrowth. This shot was taken recently whilst visiting the Welsh wetlands and wildfowl trust at Llanelli.

Re: Shy Bullfinch

Nice find and shot Amanda. I think your information is correct. I have only seen two of these all year. They are beautifully coloured birds which my book says are seen in gardens and parkland

Cheers
Peter

Re: Shy Bullfinch

I think that shot is great. Very sharp, lush colours, nice DOF

What camera was it taken on?

Thanks Peter and Garrie for commenting.

It was taken with my E410 and the Leica 14-150mm lens.

Brilliant shot! As has been said, great DoF - enough for context but not distracting. Lovelly and sharp and great colours.
All the best,
Phil

This is a super shot. I bet you were thrilled to bits with your capture.

Re: Shy Bullfinch

Hi Phil and Barr1e

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Barr1e, I was pleased with the shot, but I hadn't realised at the time they were essentially shy birds. I had only ever seen a Bullfinch once before.

There was a female bobbing around too, but as is the case she was not as colourful.

Re: Shy Bullfinch

Brilliant shot of a spectacular bird, don't see very many of those in my part of the world.

Re: Shy Bullfinch

Nice picture. I didn't know they were especially shy, I normally see them scoffing fruit buds off my currant bushes in spring - they are a bit of a pest because they do so much damage in a short time.

Yorky, Mike and Andy

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Mike, the previous time I saw one he was eating my Mum's cherry blossom and she was not amused! That was about 15 years ago. Maybe currant blossom is especially tasty!

Re: Shy Bullfinch

That's a beautiful picture Amanda, so lovely and clear too.

We sometimes see bullfinches round here, but they never come close enough to be photographed
