MIOPS Splash Kit

I bought one of the above a few weeks ago and have been 'playing' with it when I have some spare time. I find it quite fussy to set-up and I generally end up continually tinkering with the drop parameters & delay timings, but I am starting to get some viable results. It is however obvious from the results that the t5 flash duration of 1/5000th of a second from my studio flash doesn't really cut it. This is the first time in over 40 years where I'm thinking maybe I ought to look at a speedlight or one of the newer IBGT (Insulated-gate bipolar transistor) type studio flashes - but probably I just accept the image blurring and the fact it looks as though some of the drops are racing back to the centre of the picture, especially evident in number 4!

Sorry, don't really understand the question, if about purchasing a flash, this is just idle musing.

Re: MIOPS Splash Kit

It's about 115 on ebay. Not sure where you got yours from Paul.
It's quite a lot for a very specific piece of kit but does look a lot of fun. I look forward to more posts and images Paul as you learn how to get the best out of it.

Re: MIOPS Splash Kit

I bought mine from the UK Distributor as their support has been very good in the past, also needed a specific cable to trigger the camera, as this is generally my preferred method.

Re: MIOPS Splash Kit

Nicely done. Your concerns are not obvious in the first three shots so maybe you are worrying too much?

That's mainly due to the limited crop from that shot showing a wider area, but TBH none of the pictures are really sharp due to motion blur (except in the slower moving central areas) - just doesn't really leap out at you due to the subject matter.

Wasn't idle musing at all - at the time I asked I wasn't aware that this trigger unit did not require additional external sensors unlike most others

Sorry my bad - totally 'talking' at cross purposes

The software (App) is quite confusing and the downloadable manual seems to be for a previous version, so it's very trial and error with the kit, but at least I'm getting some result

The thing about this sort of photography is that you not only can you get loads of pictures, but there is always an opportunity to 'add value' in post with some extremely simple manipulation! There's loads of images that can be created from a short session
