Re: Some holiday snaps from Dubai.

Thanks for posting this stunning set, Toby, Dubai is obviously a very modern, yet beautiful city. I have previously thought this to be a place I have no wish to visit but your excellent photographs have helped change that perception.

Thanks so much for posting these.

I'm not sure that we need artistic ability to comment on pictures, we like what we like. It reminds me of the old, clichéd quote: "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like." This is obviously used as a rather apologetic excuse for voicing an opinion, but we shouldn't need to excuse our individual preferences, we should celebrate them!

Re: Some holiday snaps from Dubai.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

@Zuiko I can imagine it's a very marmite place, but I have to say I absolutely loved it. It's OTT and extreme, but great for it imo. It's unlike any other place I've been to before, you kind of feel like you're walking around a futuristic Sci-Fi movie (at least now whilst it's still modern), especially at night I'm not sure it's a place you'd go back to once you've seen it tbh (at least not for a few years by which time it'll have changed again due to the rapid development), but it's certainly a place worth experiencing imo.

What a place, looks magic. Excellent set of images. Did you get any street shots you could share?

Thanks. No sorry, I don't do street photography and we didn't go for a walk around the city per se. They're just holiday snaps as my wife keeps reminding me it's a 'family' holiday not a 'photography' holiday

That's OK no problem. I can relate to that comment from your wife, I hear that quite a lot too maybe its a trait of wives in Derbyshire

They're a bit too considered and well composed to be just "snaps."

Depends what you call snap shots I guess I did consider the shot as I was walking around and so had an idea of the framing before I grabbed the camera, but I'd guess each shot took less than 5s to pull the camera from my hip and take the shot. My wife continues walking as I'm taking pics so I can't stand there forever The sunsets and views from the Burj were more considered as I had a bit more time.

I would be in my element with all that modern architecture.

It's definitely a place I'd love to go for dedicated photography, so many opportunities for architecture, and you'd be able to get so many artistic pics. Not somewhere I could just nip to for the day though

I think that I would have gone off on my own for an hour or two either early morning or evening to get the images I wanted. I couldn't go to a place like that without some 'me' time .
