John, could you get over to Watford? If so I can drive you down there. It would be nice to catch up again!

Likewise Stephen, if you would like a lift, I am more than happy to take you as well. If you would like to travel with me, PM me with your address and I will pick you up on the way. I plan to leave just after 9am.

I was planning on going down to North Devon afterwards but I've changed my mind as the tide times are all wrong for sunrise/sunset photography the following week. So I will now be coming straight back afterwards.

  • Oly 75-300 mk2

Hoping to try out a 12-40mm on the day.
If you are driving, take them all!

My friend came with me last year and she is a Canon user so I don't think anyone will mind the Tamron lens There were quite a few Canon and Nikon users there last year.

That looks fine by me. I didn't check to see if there was plenty of parking there though.

Chevvy, it was really quite dark in there last year. I used the 14-150 most of the time but it was very slow for the lighting and I got quite a few blurred photos. However you can walk around and find different viewpoints; lots of people did. I plan to use a faster lens this year, either my 12-60 or if I can borrow the 12-40 then I would like to try that.

I assume that it will be the same big top as last year; it wasn't that big with rows of bench seating around the ring. There was a trapeze act and a horse act amongst others. Damien McG did a good lighting class, he is very entertaining and definitely not PC! It was a great afternoon all around

It looks good Chevvy, you do have to pay to park in a nearby car park. Hopefully I will be there by 11am.

I'm still trying to work out which lenses to bring - at the moment it might be EVERYTHING!

See you soon,

Ralph.

Re: Back by popular demand: The Circus (free tickets to be won)

Thanks Anne
if you google GL5 1QG Cafe Anise postcode and view the map by earth - there are a number of Car Park places about and a big Multi Story nearby (10 yds walk ) and if we are arriving about 11-12 noon we should find parking

unless we go to a Pub with a big car park ?

BTW it appears Cafe' Anise is a Veggie Cafe' but the coffee is great and they do "Cakes"

Well at least you will not have left the MUST HAVE TO USE lens at home

there may be "street" free parking without Yellow Perils nearby

or a pub ? pubs often do coffee these days

Re: Back by popular demand: The Circus (free tickets to be won)

What about The Stirrup Cup, PUB
it opens at 12 noon but I am sure we can find something to talk about outside until they open and there is PLENTY OF free parking

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...a6a0720e?hl=en

and its up the road and left and along a bit and right to The Giffords Circus

OR we could take a flask of boiling water and tea bags or coffee; milk and sugar and arrive at Giffords early and park in a circle and picnic and natter there ?

???

Can we take a Vote ?

Star Anise and find Parking

or

Stirrup Cup Pub and wait outside for 12 noon ?

or

Flasks etc., at Giffords Car Park ? ?

Re: Back by popular demand: The Circus (free tickets to be won)

Looks like you did a pretty thorough search for a meeting place Chevvy. I couldn't find much around there that was convenient either. Last time they had a separate tent that was used afterwards for tea and cake. If this venue is a similar layout I wonder if they'd be happy to open it up a bit early so people could use it as a place to congregate and chat before the event?

Phill, I saw they have "a restaurant" but not sure of opening times

and I expect they will have staff laying out tables, chairs etc., and lunch and Tea and will not want us "in their way"

I think the Flasks/bottled water etc., in the Giffords Circus car park may be best - then would not all be late

... and we are all going to the same postcode what does everyone think ?

I do not want to get stuck behind a tractor ... or accident and be late for THIS MONUMENTAL EXPERIENCE with Oly ; GIffords Circus AND Damian McGillicuddy :

Re: Back by popular demand: The Circus (free tickets to be won)

Hi All Just a question for whoever is organising the event, I was at Frampton country fair yesterday where Clifton Cameras from Durley ( minutes from the circus venue and an Olympus seller) had a large tent with stands and reps from Canon , Nikon Pentax and Fuji nothing for the M4/3rds user they appear to have little support from Olympus and what a waste as its a huge event and the tent was packed ALL day. I mentioned the Circus event which they knew nothing about!! Are Olympus missing out on perhaps getting instant sales had Clifton Cameras been there??

Perhaps Olympus are putting their "Marketing Budget" where it gets the highest ROI Here on the Olympus Forum

After all, look at all the "Converts" arriving in the New Members

After all "one may be niched, or niche themself to best sales advantage" !

If multi brand marketing was the best the big Photography NEC show would not have closed for lack of "manufacturer support" and we would have "Car Showrooms for ALL BRANDS"

Re: Back by popular demand: The Circus (free tickets to be won)

Hi Chevvy , Nice if its coming here but with so many canikons heading across to Fuji due to their marketing and word of mouth I would have thought Olympus would be out promoting and having an official supplier at an event like the circus might just push a few people in purchasing on the day rather than going home to mull it over
Clifton Cameras are literally a few miles away.

ah! well - thats up to Olympus, and perhaps they have their own people there and do not want to put us Existing Olympus die hards into grotty sales pitches as they know from our posts on "here" where we buy from

ps I would not buy from Clifton Cameras as I have my own preferred Olympus Suppliers already (SRS ; Park and B&H) and I am loyal to them

pps Olympus may have asked Clifton to be there, but they said, "No!" who knows
