A Friday Question

After a long absence the Friday question returns probing the issues and problems that really matter.

Whilst pondering the world a few minutes ago focusing on the function I was engaged in at the time it occurred to me that the roll of paper I was about to use for it's intended purpose is very different and much, much better than the product my mum used to buy in my childhood/early youth.

This prompted a question for the erstwhile members of this forum.

Q - what products from past decades are you glad to see the back of?

I'll start with my first nomination which some of you, those of a certain age at least, will I'm sure have spotted by now.

Namely - IZAL Medicated.

Was there ever a bigger failure of a product to perform the function it was allegedly designed for. It was the most effective spreader known to mankind and the only good use for it was as tracing paper.

My first experience of Andrex was almost an epiphany!!

In case there is still any one who does not know what IZAL medicated was it was toilet paper. Smooth and hard it did not do what you needed it to do

cheers

Hec

Re: A Friday Question

Izal? We had that at school, but not at home. Torn up newspaper was what we used, better than Izal.

That sinking feeling when I got to frame no. 31 on a 24 exposure film...

Welcome back Hec; plastic macintosh rain coats with the rustle and internal condensation on a wet day.

Ah but he did not say which newspaper, some were improved by that use, a higher class of dirt.

One thing Izal was good for - throwing at football matches. It had the strength to remain in one long roll, even when it was raining!

Re: A Friday Question

Signing for purchases with a debit/credit card. I would have real problems if we still had to sign the sales slip with a signature matching the one on the card - thank goodness for Chip & PIN.

Or even worse those hideous plastic rain hats which came folded down to ultra small size. They were originally clear as I recall but later models had ghastly patterns on them as well.

Re: A Friday Question

Dave I rest my case! Hec I was including those silly bits of headgear, having said that my neighbour in her late eighties still wears one in the rain and it looks OK!
