Close Encounter

I came across another ridiculously co-operative Robin at Strumpshaw Fen yesterday. It sat there adopting various poses and allowed me to get extremely close. I wish the other birds had been as helpful.

Re: Close Encounter

When in the right mood, Robins are sometimes surprisingly curious and cooperative, aren't they?

The third one is my favourite.

Re: Close Encounter

My parents have one so tame it waits on the patio to be fed and they have to be careful not to step on it.

They get to be very trusting when they get used to you. No.2 for me too.

What a poser, will No. 3 be next year's Christmas card?

Re: Close Encounter

Great pictures. Could it be that it does not feel intimidated by such a small camera.

Re: Close Encounter

Many thanks for all the kind comments. I was pleasantly surprised by the bokeh in the first three shots. I would have expected it from my 60mm f2.8 but not from the f6.7 maximum aperture of the 75-300.

Re: Close Encounter

Good shots, well done. If you're ever in West Wales go to Bosherton Lakes, the birds will take food from your hands. I've not yet had a good enough shot whilst holding the camera in one hand but I keep trying

Happy New Year

Re: Close Encounter

Robins make such good companions, I have been clearing wind damage in the garden and had a Robin near all the time, his singing made it a very pleasant experience

Sublime detail in all of these, most enjoyable to end the year.
