GDPR and (UK) photographers' rights

Hi. Does anyone know of some good resources / guidance in this area? Looking around the web there seem to be multiple interpretations (from people with sometimes questionable expertise) varying from the doom-laden to the complacent.

Taking GDPR at face value, and given that a person's facial image is identifying personal data, it would seem that for many currently allowed photographs (in genres such as street, event, documentary, architecture, photo-journalism, investigative reporting, travel etc) we would lose a lot of our freedoms to capture and share.

On this site https://gdpr-info.eu/art-85-gdpr/ I read that:

"For processing carried out for journalistic purposes or the purpose of academic artistic or literary expression, Member States shall provide for exemptions or derogations ..."

but I'm not sure whether the UK has done so.

"Artistic expression" sounds appropriate.

Can anyone provide (links to) well-informed and up-to-date advice?

There are numerous legal documents online from reputable sources but you will probably have to pay a small fee to get past the first two pages or so.

I had a personal legal case (with a telecoms provider) where I needed definitive legal information and was able to access most of what I needed from 'In Brief', which I think cost me £14 a quarter. ( www.inbrief.co.uk )

The fact that the GDPR applies to all of us in some way means that the provisions of the act must be reasonably accessible, otherwise how would anyone comply?
