Online photo storage?

Hi all

I am just looking for some good online photo upload site for my son who is trying to get into photography. He would like to have an account where he can show his work, and if/as/when it becomes good enough, to be able to sell photos.
I've just looked at flikr, but they want you to join yahoo, to become a member, and he has enough email type accounts, so we're not bothered about that one. So does anyone have any suggestions as to where his work may get seen, commented on, improved etc so he can hopefully build up enough decent photos to look into putting together a portfolio to try for an apprenticeship
Thanks in advance

Re: Online photo storage?

Hi All

Long time no speak

I'm just about to take the plunge with this. My son and I are photographing my cousins wedding this weekend, so it makes sense to have something in place for that

Thanks for the advice and guidance.

Re: Online photo storage?

I use and recommend photobox, you have unlimited space and the ability to set your prices for print etc and they will handle everything for you, just share your photos and when people buy they take their cost and give the profit back to you.

They offer a wide range of printed materials that will appeal to everyone

Plus the service is free it will cost you nothing, you can only make money

You can connect to flickr to share and get your published photos seen

Hope this helps

Hi Steven, thanks for that. Do you set the prices of the photos, or do photobox do that? Can you sell individual photos, or is it just the books? I seem to be stumbling my way round the site as there seems so much on there
Cheers

Re: Online photo storage?

Hi tracey

yes once you have signed up for a free account you can set your own prices for any of the products. They even show you a profit calculator. You can Do this for all items Inc the photos

I use it for selling wedding photos and photobooks works well for me as you can send people proofs from the site to check and approve before printing.

As it's free to use there is no harm in trying it out, but yes it can be a lot to take in at first.

New users also get 40 free prints at the moment

hope this helps

Steve

I use the flickr Just that I do not bother reading the Yahoo mail. It's just there. I am using a paid account, my kiddo have his own flickr, the free account. there is a limit to the number of photographs and they limit the size of the pictures also.

My kid's flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/ian_wk_tai/ He also do not use the yahoo email that came free with the flickr sign in.

Re: Online photo storage?

Not quite so good for the Sales aspect, but as a freebie then Picasa Web Albums may be of use as you can have Public, Unlisted or Private folders to display your images. I can therefore have folders that are of a friend's wedding and that I only want limited to guests to see, so this would be Unlisted. I might have a garden folder for a private client and this is a Private folder, And of course, all the above friends, clients or general public can then also see the Public folders.

The other alternative to those mentioned is of course to set up a website and domain name, and the two possible free or low costs options that I know of are via Microsoft Office Small Business Live (http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-GB/) and via Google, Enterprise UK, BT, e-skills UK (http://www.gbbo.co.uk/). Both will incurr extras charges for extra storage, etc., but may provide a low cost start up means for your son, that can be expanded if all goes well.

Regards
Chris

Re: Online photo storage?

Thanks Chris

The website idea may eventually happen, specially as where I host my travelthrutime site at such a great price. But that would have to wait until I had the time to design and build another site... so in the meantime I have created a photobox account and I am in the process of looking through all that, and searching through the photos...
