Picture taken 69 years ago & left in a Brownie

A friend of mine sent me some pictures which he said was taken 69 years ago, I made that 1946. I looked at them and thought that looks like Pearl Harbour (having been there in 2008) but that was 1941.

I then googled his caption and found this. Some of you may have this already but what an amazing story and some fantastic pictures but for its time and equipment wow! wow!

Hope you find interesting.

Apparently it's partly a hoax. The pics are genuine but from different cameras/people.

I thought as much. The chances of an undeveloped emulsion being usable after all this time is highly unlikely - even if it were kept in complete darkness and refrigerated.

If such photos were suddenly discovered, the story would be carried on news feeds world-wide, which isn't the case. Nonetheless, it's a good reminder of that sad day, 2300 dead, I think. It got America off the pot, however, and to begin sending troops. My uncle was on the second convoy to Europe (safely non-combat).

Re: Picture taken 69 years ago & left in a Brownie

Fairly obviously a hoax given the number of photos taken on a single roll left in a camera.

Thanks for the correction. I was less taken by the statement of them being left in a Brownie for 69 years but it made a good headline. The fact that they are film pictures taken at that time and with some considerable photographic skill still impresses me.
