I prefer the extra depth of field in the second shot. Very sharp!

Me to and f2.8 would have probably got the back flower criticly sharp as well, but a very impressive lens all the same.

I am a bit puzzled by these. I am surprised to see so much difference between f/1.4 and f/2, did you refocus between shots? And the background is odd - there is an out-of-focus stalk in the f/1.4 shot which disappears altogether in the second, and the rest of the background looks a bit clearer in the first.

Whatever, it's a lovely shot and the lens has rendered it beautifully (perhaps with just a little help from the photographer ).

John,
thanks for your comment. It was not a scientific test! Just a couple of shots of a similar thing. As you can hopefully see they are taken from different angles. The f2 shot is taken nearly parallel to the suite of blooms so the stalk you saw in shot #1 is out of frame right.
I will try to be more careful in my titling next time, although to be fair I did post them in the Foto Fair section not in the locking for criticism one!
Although like most I would prefer to have some comments rather than none!
And I've yet to see a shot my camera has taken without my help.

Re: Trying the Samyang 85mm f1.4 on the E-M1

There was three Black Bear sightings on our back road that I know about. A neighbour had one five minutes after I left for work on Tuesday and SWMBO had one walking the dog when I left for work Wednesday and Friday. So this morning I went for a walk and was debating between the 85mm for the speed or my Tamron 135mm f/2.5 for the reach. I took the Tamron as the bears are hungry after a long, cold winter. It didn't matter, no sign of any bears this morning.

The Samyang is a nice piece of glass. Unless I need better close focus it's always my pick over my Tamron 90mm macro these days.
