Its all about timing

These pictures were taken 1 month apart.

The hay was baled 5th July
The lake appeared this week.

Not sure what you are asking, I am certainly no expert farmer so apologies for using the wrong name.

The first one is definitely bales of grass cut from the paddock. If its called silage then OK I simply called it hay.

The second one is definitely a bloody big pond. (not yet a lake, but let us see) following the heavy rains, we have had here for too many days.

Hay is dried grass and is baled. Silage and haylage are not dried to the same extent and are wrapped in plastic. Hay is fed to horses whilst haylage and silage are more often fed to cattle.
