Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

I need to get out more. It looks as if my shutter count is lagging behind most users here.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

This is a good way of justifying the next camera, calculate what the cost would have been if you had been using a film camera - at say 50p per shot or more if you printed at A4 or A3 size. All your existing cameras have been paid for.

Or maybe it shows how many people machine gun. My 8 year old E-3 doesn't have as many shots on it as the posters to this thread have. But I don't think it's ever been set to continuous and I suspect this 90% of the shots were when it was on a tripod.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

I sold one M1 in August with 39k on it (owned by me from new), and my other is around 20k now (bought s/h a couple of years ago with around 1k). I now use silent shutter a lot for street work, but of course that's only been available since v4 firmware.

My big numbers mainly came from high speed burst shooting for motorsports and on game drives.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

I don't know what my shutter count is and have no interest in finding out.

With my OM film cameras, I owned a winder but only used it for single shots. With my EM-1, I have never fires a "burst". If that stupid pop-up flash/controller for RC flash would not fall down so easily my count would be about 20% lower. Every frame is considered.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

Well I guess it won't help when my E-M1 has been to Portugal for various works including shutter problem that involved replacement .. but I'm at 17741 which I guess is since the Dec 2015 shutter unit replacement!

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

Well, there are a lot of ways to skin this particular cat

Personally I'd say that the way the end result is achieved is irrelevant in real terms, and none should be considered superior or inferior in any absolute sense.

For example, thinking of street photography, there are some people who take great personal pleasure in catching the decisive moment with a single frame (with film, in some cases), whereas others set everything to automatic, program and high frame rate, and blast away.

Thomas Leuthard is one exponent of the latter approach (with an E-M10ii I believe), and good luck to anyone who feels superior to him!

I choose whichever is most likely to give the best image depending on the individual circumstances, and I have appropriate setups as Mysets on the OMDs.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

Mine was about 35000 last time I checked. I think using the in camera focus stacking will be increasing it more quickly in the autumn.
The only issue I think is age related is that it doesn't seem to work with the original batteries any more. Works fine with Hahnel which were my spares I seldom used.

Same here, the winders were just so that the body was ready for the next shot and for making in camera dupes.

I actually take less shots on digital as I no longer need to make in camera dupes.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

My EM1, owned since summer 2014, has 33k shutter actuations.
And by the way my EM5, owned since summer 2013, has 33k shutter actuations too.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

Hi Dan,

Have been very busy with other matters the past month so haven't spent any time on photography or reading in-depth about the new camera. When I find time to do so I guess I will be tempted.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

Well is it 'quantity or quality'? Must admit I shudder to think what the numbers were in my old DLSR days. Shot everything with exposure spread (only 3), but guess that wouldn't go down well in the second-hand market.

Re: What is the 'mileage' of your E-M1?

I think my E-M1 is around the 16,000 mark, so still a bit of an infant in terms of shutter life.
My E-M5 MkII has significantly less than my E-M1.
