Oly 40-150 versus Pana 45-150

Thanks to a promotional offer, I will soon be acquiring a free Panasonic Lumix 45-150mm f4-5.6. In my bag there is already an Olympus 40-150mm f4-5.6, which I've had for a couple or three of years now. A quandary, then: take the Pana and ditch the Oly, or stick with the Oly? (I know, it's sad, isn't it?.)

The reviews I have read suggest there is little in it in terms of quality and I don't need the lens OIS. Does anyone have a view on this? Are they the same length fully extended? The Olympus lens has always struck me as somewhat immodest at 150mm. But if the IQ is better after all, then no doubt I can live down my embarrassment. Which would you choose?

Re: Oly 40-150 versus Pana 45-150

Well i have had my eBay acquired 40-150 for about a month now.I am of the opinion that this is a Special Lens despite its modest kit Lens status. I am currently on holiday at Lake Garda, Italy and i reckon that i have used it mo than the other lenses that i have with me iincluding the awesome 12-40. Dont Know anything about the Pany but the Oly is brilliant for what it is.

When the Panasonic arrives you will have the luxury of comparing directly, seeing which one handles nicest, feels the smoothest and produces the most pleasing image quality. Let us know what you think.

Yes I agree the 40-150 R is a brilliant lens and I got one free with an EP3 deal last year. I think the Panny will be pushed to better it, although my Panny 45-200 is a good lens too.

Same here

My promotional Panasonic 45-150 has just arrived. I am pretty impressed with my 40-150 R but there's no point keeping both.

Panasonic looks better made and is more compact. If I keep my GX-7 (not sure) it may make sense to keep this but will decide when I get a chance to put them against each other.

Just spotted that Currys have the 40-150 R at 99.99, if anyone's interested:

Re: Oly 40-150 versus Pana 45-150

I am amazed at the quality of the image from the Oly & prefer it now to my Panny 45-200. Feels a lot more plastic but edge to edge better & contrast is certainly a step or 2 better.
