Red Kite (again)

It was very cold and cloudy most of the time when we set off to photograph Red Kite again with sleet/hail falling from the sky, but in between we had clear blue skies.
To lighten our mood Anne joined in the fun when I put a prism on the Olympus 12-100 lens and showed how to photograph Red Kites.

Olympus E-M1X - 40-150 lens with 1.4 converter - various f settings etc

Hi Ed -

We hope all is well with you and thanks for your comments.

The prism seen below fits to the threaded part of the lens (front) and you turn the handle until you achieve the scene which suits.

Re: Red Kite (again)

Once again you did well to brave the weather and get some good pictures. The prism shot was a bit of fun, I remember those filters!

Re: Red Kite (again)

Wow Barrie, you got an E-M1X … but using the "Bird tracking" button is an unfair advantage over Anne - you Cad, you! (unless she has an M1X too?)
Great Red Kites too, btw.

Haha, Mark - no, I don't have an E-M1X my choice, as I have never added a battery pack to previous cameras and I would definitely struggle with the latest model, weight wise!

However, we have always been competitive (in the nicest possible way) and I don't think my effort with the Red Kite is too shabby! -

Ann1e

Hi Mark -

I need all the help I can get as Anne is so competitive and a pretty good tog to boot.

Anne's choice was an E-M1X or a new lens - I'm hopeful her choice is suitable when it is launched.

Anne, that is a fabulous shot of a Red Kite; if I can now capture anything so superb with my new M1 Mkii, I shall be extremely chuffed.
And with all due respect to Barrie, it is obvious that your camera skills more than compensate for whatever technological advantages are embodied in the M1X.

Hi Barrie, It begs the question, what lens is it that she awaits? 300mm F4 Pro, perhaps?

Hello Mark - I guess my thoughts could well be summed up as 'confused.com' (apologies for the steal!) but I am undecided. I feel that as I am already using a lens I am pretty happy with, I need to be sure I am making a good decision. Yes, the 300mm F4 Pro I was looking at, also the 12-200mm F3.5-6.3 - two lenses with quite different qualities (and price!) but still mulling over the pros and cons.

Regards,
Ann1e

Re: Red Kite (again)

Anne, on a different tack, have you considered a decoy disguised as a Feldmaus to attract BOP?

For myself, I don't envisage adding another lens to my new M1 Mkii kit. Will make do with what I have, 40-150mm F2.8 pro, 14-150mm F3.5-4.0, 12-60mm F2.8 SWD, 50-200mm F2,8 SWD (some overlaps but different characteristics). I think I'll manage until a 2.0X converter turns up (Oly isn't that stupid methinks)
