D500...stopped in my tracks.

Wandering around John Lewis's today I passed a Nikon display cabinet..... 'Whoa-there'.....I did a double take and was literally stopped in my tracks by the size of the Nikon D500 fitted with kit zoom and hood.

No doubt its comparable in size to similar DSLR's but compared to my E-M1 mkii it's enormous heaven know what it weighed.

I'm out of touch having only handled M4/3 cameras since the E-M5 came out.

The E-M1 mkii I find heavy, but my 75 year old, sparrow like arms could just not support a D500.

When a body alone gets close to 1kg., that's some serious end of day aches

Re: D500...stopped in my tracks.

Yes, a couple of my sports photographer friends have got them: very capable bits of kit, but seriously porky!

It's amusing to hear (say) Nikon DSLR proponents try to pick holes in (say) the E-M1ii by cherry-picking from their line-up:

"It doesn't AF as well as the D500" "Sure, but have you tried to carry the thing around all day and take 2 of them on a flight as carry-on?"

"The Nikon 80-400 weighs about the same as the Oly 300, you know, and costs much less" "Yes, but the D500 body you have to hang it off weighs much more and is huge".

"But the D750 is full frame and is around the same size as the E-M1ii" "Yes, and it focuses like a brick and manages only 6.5fps unless you add the (huge) battery grip and you don't get the advantages of an EVF and Pro Capture... etc..."

Too much Oly gear.
Panasonic GM5, 12-32, 12-35, 15. Laowa 7.5.
Assorted legacy lenses, plus a Fuji X70 & a Sony A7S.

I'm very happy with the size and weight of my E-M5 Mk1 and think the E-M1 too big. Glad I haven't got one of these doorstops in my bag.

Don't ever try a D810 with grip then

I had one for about 6 months, the biggest problem for BIF shots is which sharp ones do you bin.
