Lovely shots, especially the nuthatch. I've never managed to see one in reality.

Thanks Keith, we've got them in our garden too but they're usually too quick for me!
They are lovely birds.

Great shots, especially the Nuthatch.

Curlew in bif mode.............

Using the Pany 100-400mm. Also had a trial with the Oly 40-150mm + 1.4TC. Both good, nothing to choose from except the 400mm end..........

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Like them both - but how on earth did you get the dunk to come that close? We used to have them in our front hedge, but we had to cut it down (someone up the road made a big fuss about it growing over the pavement) and they've gone now. But though I got some shots of them, they would never come close, and were only out for a fleeting second. Incredibly quick.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Thanks Keith, as you well know I did not get him to come close, he came close on his own accord...

Was actually in a hide at WWT, he was bouncing around in a bramble bush underneath the window.

Several others in the hide were gazing at various waders 100 yards away, and there I was with a big lens photoing this little dunk 6 foot away.......

Hahaha! Very wary little birds - I used to see them at Pensthorpe, from a hide, but they would never come close. Tend to be quite a few kids making a lot of noise at Pensthorpe these days, and dunnocks - and others - won't come even near a hide then. One of my colleagues at work had a beautiful shot of a tawny owl on his computer screen, and I asked him how/where he'd got it. "From my kitchen window!" What??? What camera did you use? "A thirty quid compact" He had superb shots of all sorts of birds....and here was i struggling to get good shots with two three grand's worth of camera and going to RSPB reserves. Ain't no justice in the world!

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

I photographed this Black-tailed Godwit feeding at Minsmere on Friday. When I looked at the image I thought the red squiggle in the water droplet at the end of its bill was a worm but now I think it might be its tongue. Does anybody know which it is?
