OMD with SDHC/XC cards

Just out of interest I wonder who uses what memory cards in their OMD cameras...what type, brand and write speed and class and has any one had problems with any particular type?
I have a Sandisk 64GB SDXC I Ultra card class 10 30mb/s I have a PNY 32GB Class 10, Sandisk 8GB extreme class 10 SDHC and a few other smaller ones but the only one that gives problems and sometimes is not recognised is the 64GB...

Re: OMD with SDHC/XC cards

Was the 64GB card used in something else first? It may be formatted incorrectly. I have used 64GB cards without problems on OM-Ds, Pens, etc.

The best cards for OM-Ds, which have quite fast buffers, are fast write-speed cards (45MB/sec and faster). Forget the read speed - most decent cards are 90MB/sec read speed now. The Class standard is also not a great guide - mainly for HD video reassurance.

Re: OMD with SDHC/XC cards

I have Sandisk 32GB 45mb/s used in the E-M5 and retired a few months ago when it was replaced by a Sandisk 64GB 95mb/s. The 95 is now in the E-M1, and the 45 is back in the E-M5. I also have a spare and unused 32GB 45mb/s.

Never had a problem. They are rarely taken out as i use the USB for transferring to the Mac.

Re: OMD with SDHC/XC cards

The 64gb SanDisk was brand new in the EM5 and as always formatted first if all but at that time zip get an error message.... But then in another branded camera it works fine.

Re: OMD with SDHC/XC cards

A quick tip that's tangentially related by way of speeding up writes to the card: if you shoot jpeg+raw, set your jpeg quality to low res and low quality.

This has several benefits.

1. Full sized high quality JPEGz can be several megabytes in size, about 20% of the size of the RAW. That adds to your write time.

2. If you want to show a quick snapshot over email etc, a small image will still look fine and will send faster.

3. Small JPEGs will allow you to browse through your shots faster on your computer when determining which to keep or bin, due to reduced loading and rendering time. Consider the JPEGs to be just lightweight thumbnails.

3. If you really like the shot and want it in high resolution, chances are you probably want to "develop" it in RAW anyway!

Obviously this doesn't apply for everyone, but it's worked well for me, especially on an underpowered laptop.

Re: OMD with SDHC/XC cards

I just shoot raw. Everything's imported into Lightroom, so why create extra files to import?

I like to have a foot in both camps (no not that camp). I'll use just the jpeg frequently but as soon as I think I need adjustments I use the raw.

EDIT: I forgot, I use Sandisk Extreme & Pro 8 & 16GB in the E-M5.
