E600 died this morning

with deep regret I have to announce the demise of my E600. The Off ON just blows in the breeze, ph'd Olympus Aust re repair...........what do you all think
repair or put the money towards another second hand one.

Had a think, I only want a camera to take out and not have to be precious about, don't need the filters, and I don't want to take the 620 or omd5 out in the cart so would the 500 520 etc do the job
Roberta

Re: E600 died this morning

The repair would probably be more than a s/h alternative...... And the bonus would be finding one with a low actuation count :-)

The 520 is a great wee camera and quite solid.

Re: E600 died this morning

I suggest and recommend an XZ-1, Roberta as I think you'd love it.
It delivers hi quality 10 megapixel pictures that IMO at web resolution are indistinguishable from OMD series cameras using standard lenses.

There are some qualifiers to that statement (processing etc.) but generally speaking I think it is true.

For a compact camera its super bright Zuiko F1.8 lens is miraculous - consider what you'd pay for a lens of that focal length for an OMD.

Alternatively the new (just announced) Stylist 1 is based on the XZ-2 & OM-D with a constant f2.8 equivalent to 28-300mm (or 14-150 4/3's) lens & the same built in EVF of the E-M5 but with the variable back light of the E-M1 & will sell for $799 (in Dec 2013).

Re: E600 died this morning

Ross, I can't comment on the Stylist 1 but I am through buying cameras at that price point, in fact I am pretty sure that I'm through buying cameras, period.

I'm fast realising that the XZ-1 is to all intents and purposes more practical than the XZ-2. The XZ-2's most mindless change is the battery compartment door lock which is a slider instead of the XZ-1's convenient snap lock. In the Olympus tradition the XZ-2's menu is a masterpiece of obfuscation and its CD user manual is somewhat uncomprehensive.

An XZ-1 can now be bought for around AU$400 so sentiment aside, why would one want to pay more to make very good pictures?
