You got there first. +1.

I have not tried the extra mature marmite yet (saw it in the shops yesterday) but I have tried the gold flecked marmite.

Re: Another Friday Exploration of an Important Issue

I've seen Marmite in grocery shops in Ontario but not Bovril. It's so long since I've had either but as Pete says, Marmite on bread, Bovril in a mug.

You shouldn't muck about with Marmite. Marmite is Marmite, plain and simple. It's like trying to make a Shandy using Riggwelter.

Re: Another Friday Exploration of an Important Issue

I have to thoroughly blast this thread.
1) People are happier doing what they want, in the way they want.
2) The more creative people experiment and discover new and interesting things.
3) Sneering and those who are different, is just snobbery and akin to racism. (Woo!)
4) Encouraging "herd" mentality produces lazy monopolies. E.G. Annoyed by Windows, or Adobe's pricing? 'The users' are to blame!

It's talk like this that drives people to Canikon.

I know the thread just a bit of fun. So I'm sharing something from a more neutral viewpoint also for fun. Probably driven by bitterness as Marmite is illegal where I live!

Nah, don't like the stuff!

We've only just got the New Zealand (Sanitarium) Marmite back on our shelves as the producers are/were in Christchurch which had been devastated, but it is meatier than your British stuff (we had some sent out during the draught of NZ Marmite), however it's not me that eats it but my wife. My son prefers the saltier Vegemite though.

You must mean the Sanitarium Marmite then (from Christchurch, NZ).

Ian - I've never heard of nato but like the sound of it. Perhaps you could bring some along to the next group meet Even better - add a packet/jar/whatever to the E-M1 introductory offer

John
My error - it's spelled 'natto':

Re: Another Friday Exploration of an Important Issue

I'm vegetarian, so Bovril isn't 'kosher' for me!

My partner's German and when her brother first came over he hadn't met English mustard. German mustard is very mild and he had the habit of spreading it on very thick. He did this with English mustard and he went very red and it nearly took the top of his head off.

Now who's tried Welsh lava bread?

Jim

Re: Another Friday Exploration of an Important Issue

Jim, I have tried and like Irish Lava bread

We "wean" our babes/toddlers/children onto Marmite toast and gradually Marmite toast with cheese on top.

One of our FAVs for supper (about 7pm) and on a day after a large lunch at noon/1pm ...
is baked beans on Marmite toast (thin spreading of Marmite and Baked Beans !) add on top of the Baked Beanz, thinly sliced tomatoes (little Cherry Toms are nicest & sweet and top with grated mature cheese - Davidstow is nice :0 after it has all bubbled for a few mins under a hot grill and part cooked the tomatoes ... its delicious

... some of the Elder children like this too

BOVRIL NAH! thats for the "other camp" ... My Mates MARMITE
