The Road to Floriade

This post is something of a non-sequiteur as our visit to Floriade Australia's Celebration of Spring,
was the culmination of a five days getaway and I have lots to show and tell of the journey along the way.

Floriade just blew us both away. We were there on Tuesday when a violent storm hit the ACT while I had fun dodging showers and shooting flowers,
but I could not have wished for better light. We took a second look early Wednesay morning. Not knowing what time the gates were open we got there at 8:00AM,
an hour before the show was open to the public. Luckily, and by shere coincidence we were able to join the Heart Foundation's Early Bird walk, a 1 hour conducted tour
that we promptly dropped out of once inside the gates, so we more or less had the whole show to ourselves!
There were only 20 or so people in the group who quickly vanished as we fell behind.

Wow - what an amazing collection of colours and flowers!
You must have been overwhelmed and wondering where to start taking pics!
It looks an amazing spectacle and a fitting end to your trip.

You are fortunate living in the ACT giving you extended access to such a fabulous event. Unfortunately the only op we had for a night visit was Tuesday and after a long day we just weren't up driving in from our motel at Queanbeyan. However, as mentioned in my intro, we did take a second look early Wednesday and I am so very glad I did. My Samsung S2 Navigon got me to wherever we wanted to go without getting totally bushed! Thanks Terry, we love the ACT.

It was an amazing trip in all, Jeremy and you are right - when we first set eyes on the massed beds of flowers it was quite overwhelming. In the next few days I will be posting more pics taken along the way.

These bring back a lot of memories Mark of our past visits to Floriade.
Your photos are very colourful and it must have been almost a colour-overload for the senses.
Just for information - the Pink Tulips in No4 are called "Parrot Tulips" - they are thought to resemble a parrot's beak and ruffled feathers.
I have some flowering in the garden at the moment, and they make a nice contrast with the traditional tulip shape.
I am glad you enjoyed your trip!

Do I detect a note of disapproval in your reference to a "colour-overload for the senses," Lyn?
Thanks for ID'ing the Parrot Tulip which really adds to one's ability to enjoy what one is seeing. LOL

Thanks Huw, the festival was a symphony of colour for which the composer/s deserve an ovation.
