A sad way to start my holiday

I'm off to Ireland tomorrow morn for a weeks holiday and was going to take my dogs but unfortunately I had to put Sam down tonight, he was 13 and was bright and well but suddenly had a real bad turn, I took him to the emergency vet and after the prognosis decided to let him go, very sad, he will be missed. He didn't suffer and he had a great life.

Roz and I are still going just a pity Sam isn't going to be with us.

Re: A sad way to start my holiday

Sorry to hear this, Paul, it's even worse when it's sudden and unexpected. I know it will be hard but try to enjoy your holiday and focus on the great memories you have of Sam.

My thoughts are with you.

Re: A sad way to start my holiday

Sorry to hear the news - they play such a big part in many people's lives, force owners out to get exercise in awful weather, can literally pull you over the wall and through the mud, and in some cases are so pleased to see you that they wee on your feet, but we still love them and get so much pleasure from them.
Hopefully the holiday in Ireland will be dedicated to the loss, and in the tradition of a Scottish wake, a life lost celebrated.

Regards
Chris

Re: A sad way to start my holiday

Very sorry to hear this. Always going to hurt.

We have two dogs and the eldest, Molly, seems to be kept alive by the youngest, Bruno, but we know her arthritus is causing her increasing pain so we are watching for the time when we have to do what you did.

My sympathies.

Hec

That's bad news Paul, and a tough decision which you made out of compassion for your old friend.

Re: A sad way to start my holiday

Sorry to hear this Paul. Downturns in the health of pets can be very sudden. One of our two cats was being as naughty as every on week and had to be put down a few days later. On the other hand, my daughter's hamster looked to be in its final hours last winter but is now as fine as ever - the diagnosis was it going into hiBernation!

Re: A sad way to start my holiday

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. We love our three dogs we have at the moment & all our past ones have always hurt when they went, especially when one died at home the night before we were to come back home from our holidays (to find a note & a collar at our door from our neighbour). I hope you were able to be there to say good bye.
