Carnarvon Gorge (Picture Heavy)

During the earlier part of my tour around the primarily south-western half of Queensland, I stopped off for an overnight camping stop at the southern end of the Carnarvon Gorge. The following morning I went off for a 5 hour hike. This was not really enough time to appreciate the gorge fully, but it was all that I was able to do in the time available and with the interstitial lung disease from which I am suffering. I did, however, manage to reach both "The Amphitheatre" and "The Moss Garden".

I had all my camera equipment with me in the car, but I obviously wasn't able to take everything with me on the hike. I took the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II with the Zuiko 12-100mm f4 IS PRO lens and a couple of spare batteries (which I didn't need). Also lots of Gatorade!

Here are some of the photos:

Thanks Mark. I am definitely going to have to pay another visit. But, before I go, I am going to have to take Aussie Mark's suggestion and invest in a wide angle lens. The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO Lens is looking very attractive.

Re: Carnarvon Gorge (Picture Heavy)

The 7-14mm Pro is a little pricey for me given the times I need to use that sort of lens. I invested in a 7Artisans 7.5mm fisheye, which kinda gives me results that I want. It cost only 99, and does give very reasonable results. its a manual lens, which is no problem. Not weatherproof though.

The trail through the gorge looks like a wonderful hike. Great scenary. Enjoyable photos that capture the essence well.

A nice alternative for those who use filters is the Panasonic 8-18 mm

This is a sensational thread, Larry. You sure did get around. Seeing your marvellous pictures I regret not having been to Carnarvon Gorge, and fear that I may have just left it too late.

Thanks for that suggestion. I must have a bit of a play with that lens. I have already played with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 PRO and was most impressed with the quality of the photos that were coming out of my camera.

Mark, give me a call the next time that you manage to get to Brisbane. It is only a hard one day drive or an easy two day drive from Brisbane.
