Pen F shut down
I am in Barcelona and using my Pen F for the first time.
What a total disappointment. The dammed thing constantly shuts off and will not work until the battery is removed and replaced. This happens after 1shot or 2/3 shots. Totally unreliable and unacceptable for a £1200 camera. I will be selling as soon as I get back to UK next week and will never buy Olympus equipment again. If you can't sesolve issues like this before rolling out new firmware you should not put the equipment on sale in the first place. This is a really bad advert for this format. Anyone interested in buying, message me with serious offers. |

Re: Pen F shut down
I am not aware that this is a common issue with the Pen F although I have seen something documented elsewhere. I would encourage you to check a few things like the lens/mount electronic contacts are clean and, if possible try a different memory card. If you have a second battery, do try that. If none of that works, try a camera reset.
I can completely understand your frustration and though it won't be much comfort, I do think it is simply an isolated case of bad luck, sadly. If the problem is not fixed, you could return it for a refund if it's only a few days old. Ian

Re: Pen F shut down
I held off doing the first FW update because of the issues. Is v2.1 stable now then Paul?

Re: Pen F shut down
From what I hear from posts over on mu43 it seems to have resolved the issues - although some users are still reporting freezes. Personally I've never had a lock up with any firmware version - and I've had 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and now 2.1.

Re: Pen F shut down
Thank you all for the advice.
I will try the firmware update as I am running firmware 2 and you say there is a possible fix in the new firmware update. It is almost like something freezes and stops everything working. So I am able to take shots the power off then when I power on the screen is Black as is the viewfinder and the camera is dead. The only fix is to remove the battery the turn back on. This is hopeless in the middle of shooting. Thank you all for the advice, I will certainly try the update then report back my findings. On the other hand, the camera and its IQ is fanTAstic and is so simple to use and switch between set ups. |

Re: Pen F shut down
Hope you find the problem soon. It must be very frustrating. We should really follow the old advice. Never buy anything new till all the faults have been ironed out. Good Luck cos its a great little camara.

Re: Pen F shut down
I have updated to firmware v 2.1 and so far so good.
Even with the screen turned in I have not had the same issue. Thank you all for the advice, I will keep you posted ......, The IQ is superb for a sensor that is only 1/2 the size of full frame. Very impressed other than my problem. Thanks |
