Olympus Service Plus

So I contacted Olympus with regards to the vertical lines that are appearing on my images. They asked me to send them a couple of samples, which I did, and next day they informed me that there is probably something wrong with the sensor. DHL is coming on Thursday to pick up my E-M1, but on their email they stated that I should include a proof of purchase. Unfortunately I don't have it since I bought the camera brand new from ebay.

does anyone have any experience using the service plus?

Any ideas on what to do with the proof of purchase?

Re: Olympus Service Plus

Hi there Alex!

When you bought the camera, you didn't buy it from ebay but through ebay - however I would have thought that you should be able to print out a receipt from the ebay transaction which will show the vendor as well as the purchase price and your details. I would contact Olympus to confirm that this would be acceptable as proof of purchase, but I would have thought myself that it would do as an aweful lot of people now use ebay to purchase expensive items. I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Ralph.

Re: Olympus Service Plus

Hi again Alex!

On Ebay if you click on purchase history, and then on the camera transaction click on View order details (may be hidden under more actions) this will give you the transaction information, and you can then click on a printer friendly version to print out. This version will only show the ebay user name of the company you have used, however you can get their information by on the contact details in the business seller information at the bottom of the original listing from which you bought your camera.

Hope this helps and good luck on sorting your camera!

Cheers,

Ralph.

Re: Olympus Service Plus

Ralph, I know about the transaction information on ebay, but unfortunately, that is only available for purchases within the last 3 months. For items that have been archived you don't have that option.

I do have the paypal receipt though which I guess should be enough.

Re: Olympus Service Plus

I have just found the order details in my email from when I bought the camera. I also have the invoice sent from the seller. I think the invoice would be more valid or should I include both?

Include copies of both. Not the originals.

Re: Olympus Service Plus

I just called them up and they said that just the invoice would be fine, as long as it states price, date and the product name. I will include both though just to be sure

Re: Olympus Service Plus

Does anyone know what happens if they can't find the source of the problem and therefore can't fix it?

Why don't you have faith in them and cross that bridge if it comes to it?

Re: Olympus Service Plus

I got my camera back on Thursday. DHL picked up my camera on Thursday (01/05) and it was back with me in exactly a weeks time. When I called them up on Tuesday to ask about the progress of the service, the representative told me that the technicians weren't able to reproduce the error and asked me to give him a few more details with regards to under what circumstances the lines were appearing. After explaining to him that I tried all IS settings, even trying to switch off the IS he told me that it was probably a sensor issue. He assured me that if the technicians weren't able to reproduce the error they will replace the sensor and ship it back to me.

So I got the camera on Thursday, and on the service details paper, they said that the IS was replaced but also the mode dial (there was nothing wrong with it when I sent the camera). The camera so far works flawlessly, and I wasn't able to reproduce the error so far.

A great service from Olympus and fast!

Good luck in your continued failure to reproduce the problem
