Re: Tethered shooting

The only software that works with olympus is their own studio 2 as far as I know. I use Aperture most of the time which does support Tethered shooting but not with Olympus cameras. As photo software studio 2 is just too dam slow but the tethered part works very well indeed. I don't know if its worth paying 99.00 just for tethered shooting though. Download the trial and try it for yourself.

Tethered shooting

Hey all,

Just wondering if there is any program that will allow me to shoot tethered to a laptop with my E 510...

Thinking about making a film or other stuff...

Cheers
G

Re: Tethered shooting

I thought Aperture 2 did support tethered shooting with the E-3?
Not tried it myself yet.

Re: Tethered shooting

AFAIK Olympus studio is the only option (although if Aperture does it might make me give it anpther go).
However, watched folders are a possible option. I use Lightroom, and it like many programs can monitor folders for newly added images, and automatically import them. Studio will pull the images off the camera and dump them in a directory on your HDD. The two should work well together. However I haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet. It won't be quite as fast or slick as proper tethering, but might do the job.
I wish there was proper tethered support; apparently it is because Oly only realeases a very clunky java based sdk for tethering.

All the best,
Phil

Re: Tethered shooting

Garrie, I've not tried it myself, and won't have time for a month or so, but you could have a look at
http://www.pinetreecomputing.com/camctl.asp
The E-510 isn't listed, but the E-500 is. They also give instructions on how to install a non listed camera.

Just been doing a bit more surfing and found this lot too.

Love the photos you've been posting of late. Thanks for showing them to us.
