Classic 'fir tree' blade roots.

This form of attachment dates back to at least the 40s and was used in the De Havilland Goblin - the first gas turbine military engine to gain type approval, and used in the D.H. Vampire. Also the D.H Ghost, which was used in the D.H. Venom and also was the first gas turbine to gain civilian type approval, when it was used in the original Comet.

D.H. were great pioneers, but like many pioneers hit unforeseen problems, such as metal fatigue in the Comet. Little was known about metal fatigue at the time and the extensive research following the Comet disasters benefited the whole industry.

Re: Filton Air Museum

FWIW, when you buy the entry ticket to the museum, (14.50 for oldies) its valid for a year....

That is pretty good value for money I reckon. I live 80+ miles away, but intend to revisit again...………….

I'd like to visit, but it's 120 miles for me - well outside the M25!

That's only the flying part of it.

But that is really a lovely set of photos. I love the old Bristol Fighter. We have one here in Queensland that appears to do the rounds of the air shows.

it's amazing we were both there just a day apart. I agree it's well worth the entry fee and we'll be back again some time

Strangely I didn't take any Olympus based pictures I was having a great time talking to old employees of BAE and RR I didn't get my camera out next time

Regards
Andy
