Bellerophon

Had the good fortune to spend a somewhat damp day on the Avon Valley Railway yesterday on a day/night shoot with the 1874 built steam loco `Bellerophon`. A magnificent little thing brilliantly crewed by some very young lads who were very patientwith us photographers!

Re: Bellerophon

One of Nelson's ships was called Bellerophon. It was right in the thick of the battle of Trafalgar and took a terrible hammering, but survived. Later its captain accepted the surrender of Napoleon and transported him to England. Sadly all that survives is the figurehead in the museum in Portsmouth.

She was affectionately known as "Billy Ruffian" by those that sailed her, which is the name of a very interesting book describing the career of the ship.

Re: Bellerophon

A marvellous set of shots that capture the very essence of these places.
